Washington Insights: March 2017
There are scant clear markers for what the new administration will prioritize for higher education and online learning. Sustained Republican control of Congress, however, presents some indication of future policy positions. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio's recent announcement of a bill calling for an alternative system of accreditation is one such example. And with reauthorization of the 2008 Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) on deck for the next year, hints on higher education policy that can be gleaned from current activities at the U.S. Department of Education and the current Congress are particularly important.
