Joshua Stevens, Famous Alumni
Blair, Oklahoma
In the face of adversity, distance education made pursuit of his passion possible
After being injured during deployment, infantryman Joshua Stevens faced early retirement and needed a new career. He received an opportunity to gunsmith for a shooting range, pending formal credentials. Thanks to Sonoran Desert Institute's online AS in Firearms Technology, Joshua completed the training he needed despite significant health obstacles.
Joshua is a graduate of Sonoran Desert Institute's Advanced Gunsmithing Certificate and Associates of Science in Firearms Technology programs. During his studies with SDI, Joshua developed more than just the skills needed to succeed in his new career: the writing and composition experience he gained led Joshua to win Gun Digest's Writing Competition and get his essay, The Rise of the 80-Percenter, published on their website. Gun Digest is a leading authority in firearms publication, and Mr. Stevens' inclusion on their prestigious site speaks volumes about his ability to apply critical thinking to his chosen profession.
"In education, your results directly relate to the energy and effort put in, but you'll just be spinning your wheels if that effort isn't focused and directed in a productive way. SDI provided me phenomenal focus and direction in a field that is fraught with misinformation and bluster."
