Vanessa Barry

Kalispell, Montana

Distance education allowed her to develop specialized skills and begin a rewarding career

Vanessa Berry was working at a part-time job and felt like she was not realizing her full potential. She wanted to develop expertise in a skilled trade and begin a career in an industry she is passionate about, so she decided to enroll in the At-Home Professions Healthcare Documentation Specialist course.

Vanessa Barry enrolled in the Healthcare Documentation Specialist course in April of 2016. Vanessa enjoyed the freedom to study at her own pace. Within just six months she was able to complete the course with a 95% GPA. She maintained a place on the honor roll each month and was even selected to be one of At-Home Profession's student bloggers. Upon completing the course, Vanessa was able to almost immediately find a full-time position with a local medical billing company. Her new skill set and up-to-date knowledge of medical billing fully prepared her for the position.

Vanessa has adapted to her job as a medical billing specialist quickly. Thanks to everything she learned in her course, she is happy to be able to provide support and expertise throughout all cycles of the medical record. Her employer applauds her desire to continue learning as she prepares to sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam offered through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). In addition to working as a full-time medical biller, Vanessa has begun the process of becoming self-employed by working part-time as a medical transcriptionist and volunteering in the field as her schedule permits. She is proud to have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time and is excited about fine-tuning her skills within the realm of her new career.

"I wouldn't be as successful as I am today if it wasn't for the Healthcare Documentation Specialist program offered by At-Home professions. I studied online, on my own time. I'm living the dream and I love my new job!"
